Now that the former "Equalities " minister has made her comments about rodents of a certain colour, breaking the rules she brought in ,I feel it gives me the right to speak of rodents in general and their danger to our country.

Red rodents such as the red squirrel are indigenous to our isle and are not a threat. Danny Alexander may have funny views but he is generally harmless and his indigenous ancestry (as evidenced by his red hair) gives him more rights than alien invaders.
There are many threats to native species from Japanese knotweed, Himalayan balsam, mink and grey squirrel to name but a few, and the government takes measures to control these alien invaders.

Historically the worst invader of them all has been the black rodent which brought with it the Plague/Black Death which reduced the indigenous population of Britain by one third.
This species, represented nowadays by Trevor Philips has not only taken over many of our cities together with the brown rodent bringing with them their associated diseases such as TB and AIDS, it has also taken over the levers of government power. It sucks off the milch cow of the state and the taxes of British people to suppress their freedom of speech and now even their thoughts. It is as if a virus has been injected into the British elite, taking it over and making it work towards the nation's destruction.

The black rodent of the middle ages was horrendous for the population at the time but it had the unexpected effect of ending the feudal system leading on to a more democratic society.
We are not there yet. The powerful still dictate to "the masses" while brainwashing us ito believing we are free.
All the time assaults are made on our hard won rights by those self styled guardians of democracy, the champagne socialists aka Harperson with her laws prohibiting free speech.

Well Harriet, if you can speak freely and disobey your draconian laws so can I.
You may not like red rodents but we don't like some black rodents any more than we did 700 years ago and we will not let ourselved be infected with their anti British virus.
You and your ilk are traitors to the British people and the ordinary "man in the street"whose opinions you so condescendingly ignore and seek to prohibit.

I have just been reading an article over on the OPINIONATOR website.

I see Atherton's very own one man militant band Stephen Hall has been out and about with his trusted loud haler once again under the guise of his UNITE Union and People Against Cuts (PAC) banner - protesting against both local cuts and central Governments huge public cutback plans.

Now, I am all for showing my absolute disgust at these drastic cuts being announced by the local authority and the ConDem coalition, but, I find it a little hypocritical when someone from the Unite Union who's own hierarchy on behalf of their members generosity are the biggest donor's to the Labour Party - A political party lest we forget who's thirteen years at the helm has brought this country to it's damn knees. Additionally, noting that the political advisor at this Unite Union was once Gordon Browns speech writer speaks absolute volumes! And along with their exiting leader Mr Simpson command more than a six figure salary per year and this is not including all the glorious grace and favour perks. Maybe Mr Hall should be protesting against his own bosses?

And I would certainly hazard a guess that Mr Hall will not follow my own angst and give a particular protest at the increase to £12.6 Billion given to the Foreign Aid budget in these ruthless economic times nor will he follow suit and lean towards my own efforts of supporting British Jobs For British Workers when the near 500,000 public sector workers lose their jobs - will he?

That time of year is coming round again. The time that reminds me of The Cleansing of the Temple. Yes, I'm on about Christmas, and since I work for Her Majness's Mail I thought I would pass on a few tips on how to get your cards from your local shop to your family's, friends' and enemies-you-pretend-to-likes' mantlepieces with the minimum of time and damage. Much of this also applies to mailing stuff in general.

First, do be sensible about the size and shape of what you send. If you send an enormous card with a normal first- or second-class stamp your recipient is likely to have to pay the the price difference for a large letter or packet, plus a quid handling charge.

Similar charges apply to odd shapes eg triangles.

In my place collection mail from post boxes is dumped into a hopper at one end of an IMP (Integrated Mail Processor) and stuff like packets and Large Letters are ejected at various points along the way to ordinary letters/cards being sorted by the machine.

For the machine to sort the letters certain criteria must be met eg

1) The colour of the envelope is important. I kid you not. If the machine cannot determine the address its picture is sent along a wire to one of a few centres in the country and a human at the other end reads this and types in the postcode on a keyboard. The machine prints an identifying code and the postcode on the envelope (in the form of bar codes) which is shunted off to one side for re-feeding into the IMP at a later time.

Why is the colour important? Well at my place the bar codes are printed in red ink and if the envelope is red then the machine often cannot tell the difference between the shades. Also, dark coloured envelopes can cause problems, probably due to lack of contrast.

Stuff that can't be sorted by machine for any reason is sent for manual sorting.

2) If you use a printer eg for address labels, FFS don't use fancy fonts. The machines can't read them.

3) Handwriting. I know mine is shite but I now know enough to be very careful about writing out the postcode. LA (Lancaster) postcodes can be read as CA (Carlisle) and vice versa. There are plenty of other examples I could go into but I can't be arsed and if you bloody well do as you're told the problem shouldn't arise again anyway.

4) If you've written Dave and Sue's names on the envelope but can't find their address FFS keep it separate from the other envelopes. Otherwise it'll get dropped into the post box along with the stuff that *is* addressed. At the end of each shift at Christmas every manual sorter's worktop has a small mountain of stuff with names only on it. Dave and Sue won't get their card and will hate you until the end of eternity and will burn your effigy alongside the yule log every year.

5)Please be aware that "High Street" as the last line of an address is not very helpful. You might mean the High Street in your charming little hamlet but the stuff from the post box there gets dumped into the hopper mentioned above along with letters from post boxes covering a hundred square miles. There will be plenty of other "High Streets" in that area. And lots more in the rest of the country.

This is why post codes are important. A post code covers 60 to 100 addresses (depending on who you ask) and a house or flat number followed by the post code is really all we need to get the letter to the right address.

6) Redirections/Moved Away/Deceased/Return to Sender etc.

If the addressee has moved and you write or stick the new address on the envelope and put it in a post box, it will be redirected free of charge. It's all part of the service.

If you want to return a letter unopened write "Return to Sender" or "RTS" on it and put it in a post box. It will be returned free of charge. It's all part of the service.

If you start writing messages to the sender on the envelope don't be surprised if we send it back to you with a note saying there is not enough postage. Stick your own stamp on it. If you want to have intercourse with somebody you're going to have to pay for it. It's what it's what postal services are about, after all.

Royal Mail has an official redirections service. You have to pay for it, of course. At your "old" delivery office a note is put in the pigeon hole for your old address. Anything arriving for you is marked as first class and put back into the system. This saves the letters going to your old address and the new people there only dealing with it when they can be bothered. Or opening them for purposes of blackmail.

One Christmas I got a card delivered to my address but with someone else's name on it. I wrote "Not at this address" on it and posted it. A few days later it came back. I wrote "Still not at this address" on it and posted it again. A few more days later it arrived a third time. I wrote "Still still not at this address" on it. This time it worked. Probably a sociology student in a seasonal job.

NOTE TO POSTIES. When you put the red sticker on an envelope giving the reason for non-delivery please do not, I repeat DO NOT stick it over the return address. Thank you.

7)Widow envelopes.....

Are a pain in the arse. Either the letter is folded so that it is smaller than the envelope so that it slides around to the bottom and the town or postcode can't be seen by the machine and it has to be sent to manual.

OR

It fits well but the address runs off the bottom of the window and is hidden by the paper part of the envelope. Recalibrating printers should sort this out. A certain local authority is particularly staffed by halfwits in this respect. The usual recourse is to pick away at the bottom of the window until one can see the full address. This, however takes time. Fuck what the envelope looks like after that.

8)Letters to Santa.

One colleague once remarked that all letters to Santa should be marked "Deceased. Return to Sender." He was also famous for his hatred of small children. But I digress.

If it's addressed to Santa in Lapland/ North Pole and has the correct postage it will be sent to Finland, where Lapland is located (or some of it, anyway.) I suppose they will get a reply from there. We do have some sort of arrangement. Unless the Laps just burn them to keep warm.

If the letter has only domestic postage and the address is written in Welsh then it goes to Cardiff. I don't know what happens to Welsh language letters addressed to Lapland with the correct postage. Perhaps there are Welsh-speaking reindeer herders.

Other letters to Santa with only domestic postage go to Belfast for reasons which I can't be arsed to find out.

Imbeciles was the old name for those children that are borne from incestuous relationships. It is a little known fact that a certain area within the borough of wigan and leigh had the highest rate of imbeciles in the UK. Its true to say that at one point in the history of the borough....some fathers thought on it as their priveledge to de-flower their daughters. Infact in some areas, it was the expectation.Thank goodness for new blood coming into the Borough. The aggression from some people on the issue of 'new blood coming into the area' is, the view of many,...that this is infact remnants of 'the good old days',..as it were.

THE ECONOMICS OF THE MAD HOUSE.

Calls to axe the ‘non-jobs'

So now we know it. Wigan Metro spends over £350,000 on "Diversity Officers", and another four people are employed to attempt to get EU funding for the borough. I presume this does not include office costs, heating and lighting etc.

Manchester gets by without any of these useless bureaucrats while Bolton has two.

At least we can be thankful that we do not have a "Climate Change Officer" like Warrington.

So what could we do with £350,000 if we did away with these non jobs?

Well we could build 3 council houses per year. This would employ building workers, brickies, joiners,plumbers,electricians etc to build the houses.
They in turn would need the materials with which to build the houses, bricks, plumbing materials, timber etc which would give other people a job.
These people would spend their earnings in local shops and so the circulation of jobs and money would go on.
That is why putting money into primary producers (eg housebuilders etc) brings 3 or 4 times as much money per pound than government jobs which live off the backs of the former and put back into the economy only what they have taken from it.

So in the last ten years we could have housed thirty families and given employment to perhaps as many tradesmen. These households would now be paying rent and council taxes to the Metro which would help them financially.

This is all basic economics, productive workers as well as producing assets provide employment for four others down the line as well as having an end product.
That is not to say that all workers must be producers. We need people to teach the kids, heal the sick, empty the bins etc and even a FEW to keep the books but the latter pen pushers should be kept to the bare minimum.

The reason the buraucracy has been allowed to swell is that those in control are not spending their own money. Also they are themselves bureaucrats and do not see they are in effect living off the backs of the productive members of society, and they do not understand economics.

Who created these posts which other councils manage without? Was it the overpaid Chief Excecutive who is on £70,000 more than the Prime Minister?. BTW who fixed her salary? Or was it agreed by our so called representitives, the councillors who are supposed to have our interests at heart?.
How has this come to light? Because of a FOI request. How many other needless extravagances will be uncovered by more digging?

This waste is a heavy cost on society. Those responsible should be sacked for incompetence.
Then perhaps we could preserve the services we value while at the same time cutting council taxes and business rates. If the latter were reduced they would not need people to promote our town. Businesses would flock to us and our prosperity and the future of our children would be assured.

So in a nutshell. Do away with these non jobs and put the money saved into productive investment in our town.

A BANKING SOLUTION

An interesting website taken from the comments section of the Telegraph.

Supported by economists and industrialists this site explains the causes of our financial woes and the remedies.
It points out that the £200 billion "quantitive easing" (money printing) action by the government has all gone to the banks who then lend it out at vast profit.
If this money was put into the system to pay government debt and help industry our problems could be easily solved.
It seems too good to be true but I can not find any flaws in it.

Why don't they do it?

Because all the senior politcians are in hock to the banks and many of them are themselves bankers, and so we all suffer by paying interest to these parasites who produce nothing.

I cancelled the telly tax sometime ago – I hardly watched TV as most of the stuff was abysmal, such as X-factor, Strictly Come Lap Dancing and other panem et circenses programs. As for the news, it was either sensationalised trivia, celebrity worship or in the case of the BBC, outright bias which had me reaching for the bendroflumethiazide.

If there are any programs I want to watch I either watch on demand or rent/buy the bluray DVDs. Being a geek, I have networked, using CAT6 cabling, the entire house and can stream media to any TV or PC in the house using NMTs.

Life is much better without TV, it’s more fulfilled and hours of your life are not simply wasted in silence watching angry soaps full of cliché repeating, angry chav-like actors. I like spending time reading debates on blogs, selecting online news from different countries for a wider perspective. Suddenly, news becomes more of a discussion than a one way stream of propaganda. It’s quite liberating.

Cancelling the licence is simple: one phone call, one cancelled direct debit, tear up the letters as they arrive and most importantly: one notice of “implied right of access denied for the following companies: Capita, TV Licensing and the BBC”.

The TV Licensing guy that eventually turned up at my place walked up my drive, read the notice, scratched his head, made a call on his mobile and went away, never to be seen again. And the letters suddenly stopped.

I know most people think you need a TV licence if you own a TV. That’s wrong, it’s any device used to receive live broadcast. You can use a laptop or a TV to view DVDs or other streamable material.

I know most people are worried that they may be caught. Put a notice up and ignore the TV Licence guys – they’re a private company and you can deny them right of access to your property. They are the ones infringing the law if they come up to your property.

They must obtain a warrant to enter your premises but they need to show the court proof that the occupier is watching live broadcast – this is an expensive route and if they have deceived the court in any way, they can be in big, big trouble both as an individual and a company. That is why warrants are extremely rare.

There are also no TV detector vans to catch you – they cross check their licence database with the address. The TV detector vans are empty hoaxes. No one to date has been prosecuted using a TV detector. Because they don’t exist, although the technology is feasible, it is cheaper for Capita to use the database and employ empty threats.

And there's absolutely no way they could stop me from watching live broadcasts using software on my PC using my network, should I choose to.

Like New Zealand, the licence fee will go eventually - it needs a critical mass of people to be aware of the above and then the cost of defending the licence fee becomes too great.

So, come on people, let's do it!

I haven't had a telly - or a licence - for some 15 years now. I used to have one ... but then ... I used to have a wife; she was forever whingeing that "you've always got your nose stuck in a book" instead of watching the telly with her. We had a telly because SHE wanted one. I've never missed it ... or her, come to think of it. Certainly never missed forking out £150 every year.

I do still get a couple of Crapita men knocking on my door every year. I just tell them I wouldn't have a telly if THEY paid ME £150 a year.

The investigation might take some time, and the Fraud Investigation Service aren't allowed to tell you the outcome.

Sometimes no action is taken. It might be that the person has declared the change in their circumstances and their benefit is not affected by it.

The Fraud Investigation Service will only take action if they find the person has been committing benefit fraud. Action can include removing a person's benefits and taking them to court.

Dutch prosecutors are asking judges to acquit anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders of all charges of inciting hate and discrimination against Muslims.

The move by prosecutors signals their belief the case against Wilders is weak, but judges could still disagree and convict him. The trial continues next week. 

Prosecutor Paul Velleman told the court Friday that most of Wilders' remarks -- which include comparing Islam with Naziism -- appear to target Islam as an ideology, not single out Muslims for abuse.

Prosecutors initially declined to press charges, but were ordered to do so by an appeals court that ruled there was significant evidence against the influential politician.

All eyes are on the war on free speech, the one that Dutch powers-that-be are waging inside an Amsterdam courtroom. That's where Geert Wilders is standing trial for his increasingly popular political platform, based on his analysis of the anti-Western laws and principles of Islam, that rejects the Islamization of the Netherlands.
But don't stop there. There's much more to see in the trial of Wilders, whose Partij voor de Vrijheid (Party for Freedom) is the silent partner in the Netherlands' brand new center-right coalition government. That camel in the courtroom is the tip off.
SYou haven't noticed it? I've been watching it since last year, when sometime after Dutch prosecutors announced in January 2009 that Wilders would go to trial for "insulting" Muslims and "inciting" hatred against them, Stephen Coughlin, famous in national security circles in Washington for his airtight and exhaustive briefs on jihad, clued me in to his analysis of the Wilders trial to date.
What we know now we knew then: that this trial presented a watershed moment. Wilders, leader of a growing democratic movement to save his Western nation from Islamization, risks one year in prison for speaking out about the facts and consequences of Islamization. Such speech is prohibited not by the Western tradition of free speech Wilders upholds, but rather by the Islamic laws against free speech that he rejects. Wilders' plight demonstrates the extent to which the West has already been Islamized.
"It is irrelevant whether Wilder's witnesses might prove Wilders' observations to be correct," the public prosecutor stated back at the beginning. "What's relevant is that his observations are illegal." Since when are observations "illegal"? Under communist dictatorships is one answer. Under Sharia is another.
Writing in Wilders' defense in the Wall Street Journal, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, herself a former Dutch parliamentarian, reported that Dutch multiculturalist parliamentarians, "spooked" by Wilders rising political star, modified the Dutch penal code in the fall of 2009 to fit Wilders' alleged crimes. They crafted what Hirsi Ali went on to call "the national version of what OIC diplomats peddle at the U.N. and E.U." when trying to criminalize defamation (criticism) of religion (Islam).
This is a crucial point to understand, and one that takes me back to what Stephen Coughlin posited last year. Everywhere the OIC (Organization of the Islamic Conference) goes, it peddles Islamic law. In effect, then, to build on Hirsi Ali's point, the Dutch modified their laws to conform with Islam's. This gibes precisely with how Coughlin saw the trial from the start: as an attempt to apply Islamic law, as advanced by the OIC, in the Netherlands.
The OIC is an international body guided by policy set by the kings and heads of state of 57 Islamic countries in accordance with Islamic law. Such law permeates OIC activities, which are shaped by the Sharia-based Cairo Declaration of Human Rights in Islam. The OIC relies on the Cairo Declaration as its "frame of reference and the basis ... regarding issues related to human rights." (These include free speech rights as restricted by Sharia.) The organization's 57 foreign ministers meet annually, as the OIC's website explains, to "consider the means for the implementation" of OIC policy. As Coughlin puts it, these are "real state actors using real state power to further real state objectives." Sharia objectives.

And this is what makes the Wilders case is so significant. It would be something else again if a Western government were itself to convict a democratically elected leader for violating the Sharia ban on criticizing Islam. That's not war anymore; that's conquest.
In this context, Wilders' trial was never a straight judicial process; it was a political battle from the start, a proving ground for Sharia in the West, dovetailing with the OIC's "10 year Plan," which includes a global campaign against so-called Islamophobia. It remains a test of the tolerance of Dutch elites -- tolerance for the truth -- and their openness to the intolerance of Sharia.

The prosecution's task was to gather the complaints of the 40 plaintiffs and bring a suit against Wilders, arrange all the documentation and such, and register the case with the judges. They did not want to do so. They always wanted to drop the case, even before it had become a case. The prosecutors can decide not to take up a case when its is brought by a plaintiff. This is called "seponeren." The Amsterdam prosecutors had to be ordered by the judges to bring the case at all. So the judges may still punish Wilders, they certainly want to do so. Whether they have enough spine is another question.

WHAT EVER HAS HAPPENED TO RABAR HAMAD ?

I was only the other day wondering just what had ever happened to Rabar Hamad the Iraqi asylum seeker (sic) who was originally living and studying in Wigan and who had convincingly (to some) claimed to be only 14 years old - but, who was found to be actually 20 years of age and who was to be quite rightly deported back to his native Iraq! As he had absolutely no right whatsoever to be in this country, never mind in Wigan at a cost to the local taxpayers of £4,000 per week:

An article in todays Daily Telegraph reveals the truth about Britains pensioners being unable to heat their homes due to the cost of Gas and Electricity supplied to Britains pensioners by mainly Foreign Owned energy firms.

Last year 171 Wigan pensioners died during last winters extremely long and cold winter due to being unable to afford to heat their homes.

Now the ConDem governement, like the previous government, have gone for our Pensioners pockets and purses.

"With the average British fuel bill climbing to well over £1,000 a year – for many pensioners the largest bill they have to pay all year.[...]

A household is defined as being fuel poor if it has to spend 10 per cent or more of its income on paying to keep the home adequately warm. [...]

In 2003 the number of households hit a low of two million, but it climbed to four million in 2007 and then 4.5 million in 2008, the figures for which were published today by the Department of Energy & Climate Change.

This figure suggests that one in six households were fuel poor during 2008, a year which saw energy bills shoot up by 45 per cent."

CHANGE AND DECAY

In yesterday's Evening Post I read that the old Ashton Police Station is for sale having been made redundant by a new station in Bamfurlong which will serve the Ashton area as well.

And they wonder why the clear up rates for crimes is so low.

The police "service" as with other government departments has over the last 40 years become increasingly centralised which has resulted in a police force cocooned from any local knowledge which they would have previously had.

In former days the local bobby knew the area and the likely suspects if any crimes were committed, enough often to make a speedy arrest. He would also note any suspicious people in the neighbourhood and keep an eye on them.

Crime has risen because of these changes (although not helped by the politically correct lenient judiciary).

Calls for "more bobbies on the beat" put by all political parties are in my opinion misguided. The last Labour government responded to these calls by creating the useless "plastic police", usually women little over 5 feet tall with no powers of arrest which were supposed to reassure people.

Bobbies on the beat are a waste of time if they do not know the local people and scallies. These latter just wait until the cops have walked or driven past before commiting their nefarious activities. PCSOs are even more useless.

The only way for the police to combat crime is for them to have local knowledge, not the bobby on the beat but the local bobby.

It worked in the past but now they say it is uneconomic to have local police stations with local cops.

How come we could afford local bobbies 40 years ago and we can't now?or has everything been sacrificed to political correct box ticking?

It seems like, it but until the forces of the law regain their local knowledge and ignore political correctness I feel the situation will continue to deteriorate.

COST/BENEFITS OF EDUCATION

The news that university fees are to be increased by several thousands of pounds per year illustrate short term and muddled thinking by the government and their hired "experts".
Yes the costs of university education are high and something needs to be done to reduce expenditure. However it is ironic that the people proposing these steep rises were themselves educated at the public expense.

The trouble with higher and university education is that too many students are taking worthless courses such as "Film Studies" "Golf Course Management" and "Media Studies" or "Drama" which are of dubious value either to the students or the country.

Also many subjects which previously did not need a degree such as nursing now require one, resulting not in better nursing but nurses being in their opinion too qualified to nurse patients, which surely is supposed to be their job.
Social science is another "soft" subject for a profession which needs above all else compassion and common sense, qualities which have been shown to be sadly lacking recently in Social Services.

Even the usual degree of senior politicians Politics, Philosophy and Economics is of dubious value, although cabinet ministers will not see it that way.
Politics is a matter of opinion as is philosophy while economics is far from being a science as shown by events in recent years, which were unforseen by the majority of these so called experts, in fact it is said that if you have 5 economists in a room you will have six opinions.
Therefore numbers taking this course should be drastically reduced.

Similarly there are too many students taking subjects such as History or English (Andy Burnham is an English graduate but the relevence of that subject to his former job as Health Minister is dubious).
Of course we need some who study these subjects but not so many and if entrance to these subjects is curtailed the increasing competition would ensure higher standards.

Packing universities with mediocre students studying subjects which, while possibly interesting to some are of little value in getting a job or the country as a whole is a betrayal of those students who, thinking these peripheral subjects are a passport to secuity only to find that the only certainty is a lifetime's debt. The stupidity of this was highlighted today by Lord Brown who said that up to 20% would either be unemployed or on a poor wage after qualification so the student debt would never be repaid.

In my opinion Science, Engineering, Medicine etc and apprenticeships should be subsidised as useful to the community and vital to our future. Also they are expensive courses.
Admittedly these qualifications are in high demand as is reflected by their salaries and there should be some pay back. However if having qualified with in excess of £30,000 debt and the compulsion to pay this back these graduates will be tempted to emigrate taking their expertise ,paid for by us to our competitors.
Instead people in these "useful" professions should get their education free and pay the costs back by working in this country for perhaps 10 years.
An example of the stupidity of the present system is in Medicine where many newly qualified doctors emigrate and have to be replaced by medics qualifying in such centres of excellence as Malawi and the Congo.

To summarise, the numbers taking "soft" subjects should be radically curtailed thus saving sufficient money to subsidise the students taking subjects the country needs.

Education it is said is an investment in the future but the investment should be in those subjects which will give the taxpayer a return and should be free.

By all means let people take other subjects of dubious national value but they should pay the costs themselves.
