Hands Off The Marsh Playing Fields
In 1931 on her passing, wealthy Miss Mary Marsh of Leigh left in her will a large section of her own land on Wigan Road to ALL the children of Leigh, as a massive goodwill gesture to the town and to encourage sportsmanship and budding athletes of the town. It was entrusted by Miss Marsh's selected trustees to ensure it remained in safe hands for the children of Leigh and to ensure it remained that way forever!
Unfortunately, all the past trustees of Miss Marsh's estate have all since passed away and the covenant now lays alone in a Leigh bank vault with no-one being able to gain access to it? That is unless, you are one of the scurrying rats from the higher echelons of Wigan Metro council! Who have seized on the opportunity to rip the heart out of our community even further than they already have done so in the recent past. And by hook or by crook are proposing to put a road through these sacred fields of our children, just so they can feast on the vast profits unabated that the tender from BROOKHOUSE GROUP will afford them for parts of our bequeathed land.
Blood, sweat, tears and the odd moment of joy I have had on these fields, through my junior years to the more senior times. Football, rugby and cricket I have played on the Marsh Playing Fields, and so too have many of my friends and family as too have the many other thousands and thousands of children, juniors and seniors before and after me.
So, early on last week I attended a PUBLIC MEETING at the Edna Road Labour Club off Wigan Road (and yes, I did wipe my feet as I came out) to hear what our local MP and Cabinet Minister Andy Burnham had to say on the matter, and he was accompanied by two of his "lackey" Leigh Labour councillors for this particular ward Myra Whiteside and Sue Greensmith .
I will quote:
Mr Burnham said: "I attended the public meeting to hear for myself the strength of feeling on this issue."It is clear to me that the proposal to build on part of the field is completely unacceptable to the vast majority of local people."As a minister, I am very familiar with the issues regarding the loss of playing fields. I find it hard to believe that a similar proposal would have been put forward in the south of England over a village green. As long as I do this job I will not accept second best for Leigh."Local people are not opposed to the principle of development or the creation of a link road to relieve congestion on the Sportsman's junction to help traffic flows through Leigh, but this should not be done at any cost."As an alternative site exists, Brookhouse now needs to develop an alternative plan and ditch their current proposals."

It was brutally brilliant to see and hear what Cllr. Myra Whiteside had to say on the matter and she dropped quicker than a lead bleedin balloon amongst the 200 or so very hostile attendees there that evening and basically, everything she said was treated with the contempt it deserved.
I later challanged Cllr. Myra Whitside as she was leaving and asked if it was that she truly believed in saving these fields, and then the inevitable happened, would she be so aghast and disgusted at the actions of her fellow colleagues in the Labour dominated chambers to allow this to happen, would she resign from her post in protest? And show her ward that she was indeed commited wholeheartedly to saving these fields?
"OF COURSE NOT............!!" She screamed:
"And whom I speaking too?"
" I am representing the Leigh British National Party"
"You Nazi! I don't debate with Fascist's, my father fought the Nazi's, you Nazi!"
"Well, so did both my Grandfathers" I told her: "So, where does that take us now?"
"I DON'T DEBATE WITH NAZI'S" and Cllr. Myra Whiteside was then ushered out of the club.
Proving, once again they have no social conscience about calling someone a Nazi and inciting incidents like that of Tony Ward's plight a month earlier in Leigh. But, people are now realising who the real Nazi's are (as Morgan also defines) and from that childish and defamotary rant by Cllr. Whiteside we managed to encourage a good number of those who had witnessed this verbal assault on me, and to see the true face of of the British National Party in Leigh and Wigan a few days later at our own meeting, and in Cllr. Whiteside's own back yard I might add! And they left a little more happier than the Edna Road meeting, and especially with their new pin badges attached to their proud chests!
I will confess that it has taken a little time to write about this, but, we have been pursuing the legal avenues to bring Cllr:Myra Whiteside to be held accountable for her actions that evening!
So watch this space!
Oh! And if you are reading this Myra? Just be careful of those "whistleblowers" and don't forget! "loose lips sinks ships..................?????"

A PRODUCTIVE MEETING
We attended a productive meeting today in Carlisle under the chairmanship of NW organiser Clive Jefferson where we discussed countering the smears and dirty tricks of the hostile media.
It was good to chat with our Euro candidates again and especially to congratulate Derek Adams on his stunning 23% vote in the Moston by election and beating the Tories in their third most winnable seat in Manchester, or so they thought.
Advice was given on canvassing and presentation together with the best way to set up paper sales, as well as leafletting.
I took delivery of an additional 80,000 leaflets on Thursday and Manchester had also a large delivery.
We now have to get them out, a lot of work but we are up for it.
Altogether a very useful meeting regarding our election effort, further details of which must remain unsaid at present for obvious reasons.
Harriet Harmon says people are not aware of the impending Euro elections.
They are in the North West and they know which way they are going to vote and according to reports it is not for her party.

Like, for instance, neither this paper nor Peter Franzen saw fit to mention that though this wasn’t the case for all the protesters – ALL of those that attacked the four BNP members and their Landrover in Leigh three weeks ago with claw hammers (using the claw bit to hit Tony Ward in the head) and axes were Asian. ALL!
Nobody in the BNP thinks these were peaceful Hindus; and we think such a cowardly attack would be beneath the warrior Sikhs; and thinking it might have been Buddhists is beyond a joke. What Asians does that leave?

Also not reported was that as Tony Ward stumbled away half blinded after the attack, the attacker actually stalked him to dish out more. Only prompt action by a horrified conscientious police officer prevented a possible tragedy.
Also not reported was the action of a Leither in stepping forward to help the four men under attack.
But when two white teenage girls racially abuse an immigrant – every gory detail is reported in the press, right down to the appearance of the perpetrators.
Report all, or report none.

The police seem to be taking this attack a lot more seriously than the hammer attack on a BNP member “because of his political viewpoint” perpetrated by a black man three weeks ago which could have resulted in his death.
Punching anyone in the face is to be condemned, but a few slaps bu a teenage girl hardly compares with an attack with a claw hammer. So a “crime” against an ethnic minority is more serious than attempted murder with a hammer on someone with whom you disagree?
I do not condone ANY violence to anyone but the police do not take violence against us as seriously as when it is the other way round.
I suppose it helps the police to keep up their tally of “racial” incidents and ticks a few more boxes and no doubt justify Elliot’s job. We really have sunk to the depths in this country.

Although there is a danger of re-visiting old ground the point is it certainly sems to be related since on the occasion of the reported hammer attack I had grave concerns over the veracity of reporting essentially due to the content of some comments I felt then (and still do) to be fanciful at best. I tried to gain an accurate picture from a commentator who stated that he was there only to find that all submitted comments (including the fact they existed) removed. That episode has led to a profound scepticism about what I read. I only now exercise my eyes with this journal purely BECAUSE of the manner in which they treated a perfectly reasonable debate.
I completely digress. Apologies. However, as an increasingly interested observer I cannot escape the feeling that there is a distinct difference in how these events are reported.
I am, however, completely open to contraru evidence.

A BIG WELCOME TO TONY WARD.
A packed room greeted Tony Ward when he returned to Leigh last night to give an account of the incident when he was attacked by Leftist thugs on the night of the roadshow.
It was not Tony's first visit to Leigh since the vicious claw hammer attack which he was lucky to survive. One inch higher and he would have been killed. He was lucky to get away as ,blinded by blood he was groping his way along a wall when he was saved by a friend from the attacker who was following him with an axe and waiting until he was out of range of CCTV cameras.
In spite of all this and bearing the scars of his injuries he came back the next day and visited the town centre pubs where the incident took place.
Gary Chadwick the Leigh group leader apologised for the incident and said that the thugs did not represent "Leythers" . Tony explained that his attackers were not from Leigh as indicated by their accents and he had no intention of allowing these outsiders to prevent him from going to Leigh.
The police with one exception were generally incompetent and lost much forensic evidence but he still has some tricks up his sleeve.
Tony also asked if anyone knew the local man who waded in to save him and without whom he would have been even more severely injured, as he would like to thank him.
A heartfelt round of applause went round the ninety or so people at the meeting.

When he identified himself as a BNP member she had a hissy fit and started ranting about NAZIs and Fascists, a disgraceful scene witnessed by many at last night's meeting.
Gary is taking advice about possible legal action for defamation of character.
Mrs Whiteside however refused to answer Gary's questions much to the amusement of the audience. The episode will do our cause no harm at all and we will use it to demonstrate that WE represent the grass roots opinion and not the Labour hierarchy
We then discussed our plans for the Euro elections but I'm not going into details here for obvious reasons.
Andrew Tierney gave us a smile with his pictures of the "Truth Truck" in the mayors parking spot outside Wigan Town Hall. He had driven round Wigan twice and had a very positive response with people giving the "thumbs up" and blowing their horns. It is becoming a valuable publicity tool.
All in all the best EVER meeting of the Wigan and Leigh group. People of all ages were up for it to try and get rid of this corrupt government and the other parties. There was so much anger towards them and we must harness it.
Thanks to all who contributed to our collection and bought merchandise. We took £200 which will be put to good use.

All in all the best EVER meeting of the Wigan and Leigh group. People of all ages were up for it to try and get rid of this corrupt government and the other parties. There was so much anger towards them and we must harness it.
Thanks to all who contributed to our collection and bought merchandise. We took £200 which will be put to good use.

If last night is anything to go by we certainly are.
P S it seems we are getting a welcome in other areas of the North West with Derek Adams taking 23% of the vote in Moston and beating the Tories, Lib Dems and Greens. These are the people who prevent us holding meetings in the Town Hall, people who poll less votes than we do.
HYPOCRITS, deny us the use of council facilities and call US undemocratic.
