The photo shows wives and mothers of miners working in a pit after an explosion in Golborne going to ascertain whether their loved ones have been killed.No doubt some of their descendants are now being denied work and housing and some addicted to drugs.
Contrast the dignity of these poor pre war widows contrasts with the rioters in London last weekend or those trying to disrupt our RWB festival.
Society is obviously more prosperous but is it necessarily better?
