Global warming, er, cooling, er, warming er ...

... make up your own mind.

Here is a science lecture on global warming. It constitutes four films with a combined length of a little over 30 minutes. They are not at all dry and boring, and I recommend that all readers watch them.

After watching these videos I’m still not convinced that we’re not destroying the planet, we simply can’t go on using the atmosphere as a trash can for our CO2 emissions. I simply wasn’t convinced by this man’s attempts to use selected data to show that human activity isn’t responsible for climate change. He seems to be very selective in the data he presents and the conclusions he draws from it just don’t seem to add up to me.

In the end I think we all must accept people in excessive numbers are pollution. Also the fact that: ‘most intelligent life on this planet would be better off if the human races didn’t exist’.

There is one thing I do know: if I'm driving down the M6 at 70 mph and I run into a thick bank of fog, I don't continue driving at 70 while I calculate the chances of ploughing headlong into another car, I slow down to 10 MPH until I'm sure what's ahead.

At the moment we're all passengers in a car doing 70 in the fog, and we are all discussing the possibility of what might or might not be ahead of us.

For God sake let's Slow down NOW!

Something tells me Chris that you're not talikng about slowing down the population growth.

Until we get a grip on population growth nothing else we do or don't do will make the slightest bit of difference.

My comment above was about the human races destroying the earth, and an oversize population of any race is indeed part of that, but I was thinking directly about climate change when I wrote that comment. I don't know why (or even if) it's happening, but I do think we should put on the brakes until we do know. The main question must be 'is it happening?' the question why is relevant only in so much that it may help us find an answer if it indeed is happening.

Yes Chris, I know you're right on that.

My overview though is that cutting numbers will automatically cut down whatever it is humans are doing.

There's no point this country changing its behaviour if China is building a new coal-fired power station every couple of days, or India is increasing its pollution output at an accelerating rate, just for examples.

And they're not going to stop what they're doing - why should they? They only want for themselves what we've already got for our selves. Are we going to MAKE them stop? China? India? HOW? Militarily? Either of them could make mincemeat of us. Economically? Well, considering China makes almost every manufactured good we use ... ridiculous.

Numbers, it all comes down to numbers of humans, both within this country and in the world as a whole. Never mind, old Ma Nature will take care of it her own way. Anyone want to run a book on when the first billion-death famine happens?
