INQUEST ON TWO BI ELECTIONS

First of all congratulations to Enis Dalton on her election result in Barnsley and saving her deposit.
The result however was a big disappointment in that we were trounced by UKIP and which was not unexpected.
Although Enis saved her deposit her percentage of the vote was down by 2.9%
The question we have to answer is why?

Well at our conference in Leigh Nick Griffin gave the result of a survey where people were given certain names and asked what was the first word that came into their head. He told us that when the words BNP was said they answered without thinking "Nick Griffin"

In other words our party's image is "Nick Griffin".
It follows therefore that our decreasing support must in at least part be due to the negative image rightly or wrongly associated with him, just as Labour won 3 elections not on policies but on the positive image of Tony Blair however unjustified this image was.

Therefore while Nick was prepared to use what he hoped was a positive image in his favour he must now accept that his continuing presence as a leader is putting the brakes on our progress.

We have policies with which most people agree but they still don't vote for us in sufficient numbers.
We like UKIP are for withdrawal from the EU but unlike them we have many other policies to solve our national problems.
They (UKIP) are as much in the pockets of the banking and hedge fund thieves as the other parties and other than their anti EU stance are little different. In a working class area like Barnsley if our ideas had been put well and if voters had trusted us we would have done much better.

We forget that people are more interested and motivated to vote by things that matter to them personally in their locality and we should have concentrated on these matters more. This is the result of decisions made "on high" and not locally and it is localism which will win us power.
Halal meat, troops home and even immigration though important to us are less so in some areas than pensions, student fees and jobs.

After election defeats other parties accept the need for a change in strategy and possibly a new leader.
Unfortunately our party and its leadership has not learned this old lesson but it must do if we are to survive as a force in British politics.
Or perhaps the leadership does not want to learn and keep its senior positions in a rapidly decreasing group of followers.

The bi election in Walkden was not much better. I know the lads there worked hard but were beaten by the English Democrats.
What does this party stand for. A vague form of nationalism maybe but what are its other policies. Who is their leader. God knows And still they beat us.

It must or should tell us something when hard working activists and a good candidate is beaten by a party whose policies are unknown.

Again it is the image of our party and I am afraid that with the present leadership and officials we will get nowhere.

If they REALLY believe in the interests of OUR party (it belongs to all its members) they should do the decent thing , step down and let others more acceptible to the electorate take their place.

We also need to reunite with all the good nationalists who have been driven from our ranks into one party which stresses what unites us rather than where we differ as has happened so often in the past.
If we could manage this we would be a powerful force for good in the country.

I shall not be holding my breath that the leadership will allow this to happen, but by their actions I and many other members will judge them.

A good article LP. I'm glad that you can see where the main problem lies. If the public knew what the BNP's policies were and could see past the negative baggage, the party would quickly gain a strong and genuinely popular following. Until the baggage is jettisoned though, BNP activists will be on a hiding to nothing.

Barnsley Central is exactly the sort of seat where the BNP should be making significant inroads, and the party has the right set of policies to make a real positive difference to ordinary people's lives. As you note, in the case of UKIP, their economic policies would be equally as harmful as the incumbent administration’s. I hope that you and other fellow members who have similar opinions, are able to bring about the necessary changes within the party and its leadership, because the country not only desperately needs a positive nationalist alternative, but desperately wants one. The prize is there for the taking if obstructive egos can be removed from the picture.

So a bad day at the office. The BNP had a very good candidate in Barnsley. And despite Griffins tinkering with the Yorkshire region she saved the deposit.UKIP vote was a shock and yet people voted for them over the BNP.A other result in the Wigan Central ward saw UKIP finish bottom with just 189 votes why did the BNP not stand here? or any other nationalist party.

Durotrigan has beaten me to it. A well thought out article and refreshing to see. People are more open than ever to voting for a nationalist party and still the BNP cant make any headway. Griffin is an intelligent man, I fail to see how he isn't aware that by staying on as leader he is damaging the party.

Sorry, disagree, seeing Nick Griffin, many times speak, his commitment and love of our Land,
to me, is why I joined the BNP. End of. No Nick Griffin, no BNP in my opinion, a true dedicated Patriot, stop and think of your Land and its Heritage, not your own egos. I have no intention of jumping ship, Nick has given his life to the Nationalists movement,
shame, on any who can ignore this.

Lets face it, the anti-british media have created the image "problem" & the BNP have responded by going for a re-brand. This will take time to build and be effective. Nick Griffin certainly is not the problem and one only has to look back at the 2009 EU results to see that.

UKIP will shine for a few months as the BBC continue to promote them, but when voters actually read their weak policies, they will yet again fade away.

Lanky
A good blog outlining what is wrong with the BNP philosophy.
Mr Griffith is baggage that the party cannot afford, with the media he is a hate figure who they cannot report anything good about vis a vis the NUJ diktat.
Many times in the past I have felt sorry for you in that your heart is in exactly the right place regarding your area.
But it is as plain as a pikestaff to me that you were on an uphill battle, because the BNP was and is always going to be associated with fascism Oswald Moseley type.
As you quite rightly say the party needs to change and may I say radically if it is to be a force to be reckoned with in the corrupt British government system.
Whether it will change I don't know but you as a died in the wool patriotic Englishman need have no fear that your name will go down in Billinge history as one man who was really committed to this country.
To all of you who read this blog and disagree my only words to you are unprintable.
Lanky I think you will have an idea who wrote this on the basis of lets say Patrick.
You Sir are in my opinion the salt of the earth as far as this area is concerned, who else in their right mind would have given up a comfortable retirement to involve themselves in trying to protect British values and culture.
The British people should be proud that people like you are prepared to defend our culture against foreign invasions visited on us by trecherous governments.
So Lanky you are an extrodinary guy in my book and long may you be so.
Nick if you read this, think long and hard, you are hearing a real patriot talking here, not some carpet bagger.

Wigan Central is not a good area for us so it would have been a waste of time and resources.
Have no fear we will have a presence at the May elections in many wards.

Correct, let the British National Party, not fall into the trap of pleasing the media by having political leaders, who can only attend a LOCAL Political meeting, with a vetted audiance, and £@s worth of tax payers money guarding them.

Nick Griffin, attends a local meet,
or venue, he speaks from the heart, no notes, and will answear any questions from the meet. Cameron and Clegg, Milliband, need a weeks notice to any question posed. Phoneys, one and all.

God Bless, Nick, there is none,
at this time to forward the cause.

They may be elderly, but does their voice not count ?

Conservative, was always their choice, now the Labour Man has got in, a Shevington Bloke.

A friend to Stephen Hall - Respect, say no more !

Griffin has a history of dividing the nationalist movement. He spilt the NF when he was chairman'he also has been declared bankrupt once to the tune of £65.000.He wrecked the Burnley branch of the BNP that had eight councillors at one time'did the same to Oldham'got rid of a lot of good organisers and main men'Mike Newland'Steve and Sharron Edwards'Nick Cass.Others have left like Kev Bryant'Chris Jackson'Steve Smith'(read the book the rise of Burnley BNP by Steve Smith and see what Steve has to say about nick going as far back as 1999)a lot of other former members have joined other nationalist party's or just have packed in.Nick must stand down so that the party can make progress and hope that many ex members will rejoin and make us a force once again.Griffin has links to Gaddaffi and Libya he when there seeking funds for the NF and only came back with copy's of Gaddaffi's green book.

As always a good thought provoking post.

And yes, fortunately or unfortunately whichever way you want to look at it - I firmly believe it needed to be said.

Onwards and upwards!

There have been several meetings when members have been excluded in case they ask awkward questions.
Not much democracy there then.

Griffin's madness was made clear to everyone (at least everyone who cared to see) in December 2007. Now, over 3 years later it's simply too late to save anything from the mess he's left of a once booming party.

Informed speculation has it that: "within a few months, or more likely weeks, the BNP will be wound up for failing to pay its debts". Members should be looking at other political parties, with regards to membership. In my opinion (and despite some of the criticisms made by Charles on this blog having some validity) can I suggest that UKIP is a natural home for the majority of decent BNP members who will be left without a party when Griffin's madness comes to its inevitable conclusion.

Anonymous. Who has said anything about jumping ship?
All we are saying perhaps we need a new captain and senior officers.

Dear Lanky Patriot (11:33am)

It's not a case of jumping ship. It's a case of a sinking ship, a ship so badly holed that it's now unsaveable.

The time to act was when Griffin started to drive the ship onto the rocks. Now, after 3 years of punching holes in the hull, it's a case of looking for a rescue vessel.

I could not agree with lanky patriot more. The ship needs a new captain and senior officers. And get rid of some of the baggage that is holding the BNP back.I don't know if Griffin is working to some other agenda and trying to destroy the party from the inside. But somebody near the top of the party is.When John Tyndall was leader'things had just started to get better'alright he had a dubious past but at least he had the party's Intrest at heart.here is a quote from JT's own magazine from 1999 just before the leadership election.Scotland yard and MI5 are planning a huge covert operation to break up violent racist organisations the daily express has learned that intelligence officers will infiltrate far right groups such as the British national party.Other officers will tap telephones, open mail and scrutinise bank accounts and medical records. We plan to close down these organisations by using every administrative device available to us;said a yard source.(The Daily Express 8th February 1999.

To the gentleman who posted at 5/3/11
00.44.
If you want to be pedantic (means one who insists on petty details)yes I'm sorry that I got Mr Griffins name wrong, hardly the crime of the century.
As for being a Troll, this is for your info a supernatural being in Scandanavian mythology.
Anyway back to what I said originally, for your info I voted in the last general and local elections for the BNP and as a matter of fact my wife and I endorsed them as candidates to the returning officer.
So you sir would be advised to get your facts straight before you go into print.
Finally I still stand on the principal that the BNP has a negative image in the media, what does it need to do,you tell me what your agenda would be to further the parties aspirations?.
Over to you.
