A local "SUPER" school scheme planned for development in Lowton has been scrapped under tough new austerity measures to save £55bn by the new coalition education secretary Michael Gove.
It was initially planned to merge both Lowton High and Golborne High schools to form the new super school on the site of Lowton Civic Hall. Although, the original plan had been met with much opposition the Labour ran council were willing to ignore the objectors and demonstrations and continue with the £257m borough wide Building Schools for the Future proposals, and no doubt Lord Peter Smith would have had his gangly grubby fingers in the till on this one and would have been flouting cronyism at the highest level on this project with giving jobs for the boys at one or two of his past directorships here at PFI, NWDA (Chris Wilkinson, NWDA Senior Development Manager and Peter Mearns, NWDA Director of Marketing both Matrix graduates at Common Purpose) or 4NW! (And Steve Barwick, who is Director of Sustainable Development, Policy and Europe at 4NW is also a Matrix graduate of Common Purpose! Just thought I'd let you know!)
No consideration was given to the distance many of the pupils would have had to travel if the two schools had merged. And additionally to the wanton destruction of some of the best areas of natural beauty that would need to be destroyed in order to put the new roads in to reach the initial proposed site at Hesketh Meadow from alternative routes.

I along with the vast majority of others in the locality welcome this decision by Michael Gove - not only due to all the austerity restrictions being imposed upon us - but, in what we saw as a criminal profit making and dumbing down exercise of our children by the powers that be. How better to indoctrinate our children with their vast left-wing social engineering agenda than getting as many children as possible into one vast area at any one time by merging all the local high schools together in what will create super huge class sizes - and feed their impressionable young heads collectively with utter nonsense.
These "super" schools scupper individualism denying the young and the gifted to flourish in their own right be it in academic or sporting achievements and thus creates just a 'conveyor belt' young adult who's no better or no worse than the last one off the line.
Thanks to some our supporters who made their voices heard at many of these anti- "super school" meetings even though we let a certain enemy of ours do most of the donkey work!

THOUGHTS ON THE LEADERSHIP ELECTION
As everybody must now realise there is a possibility of a challenge for leadership of the Party this summer. This should not come as a surprise as challenges for the party leadership are gurantors of democracy and occur in most major political parties, and our party is no different.
Unfortunately personal abusive statements have been put out on both sides which are more in keeping with those of the other parties venom to which we are so often subjected.
Yes structures are needed to modernise our party, indeed we have been victim of our own success and the party structure has struggled to keep up with this rapid change.
I have made my opinions known on some issues and have been reassured that many of the deficiencies will soon be remedied.
I accept the shock of the betrayal by important officials in the past months which has hampered our efforts and I feel this betrayal as much as anybody.
There will always people who are susceptible selling their principles for money and others who have been inserted into the party in an attempt to destroy us. That they do so should be seen as a compliment as if our party was of no importance why bother attacking? and it should reinforce our determination to build on our successes.
Any such infiltrators and traitors should be removed promptly and the reasons for their removal stated plainly.
However abusive and often untrue posts are not those of responsible mature political people.
Whichever the side one is on we all have the same objectives ie to save our country.
I have good friends on both sides of the argument and have no intention of losing them by condoning these childish blogs. More importantly after the dust has settled we HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER.
The powers that be wish us to squabble among ourselves and split as a party.
Just for that reason I refuse to join in any dispute. There are valid points on both sides and a variety of opinions as to policy and the way forward, but then we are a democratic party and hopefully both sides will get together after any election and we will emerge even stronger.
To those who are hoping we will press the self destruct button.
DONT BANK ON IT ! We are and will be here for the long haul.

ANOTHER ISLAMIST ASIAN RACIAL ATTACK ON A WHITE VICTIM
A FATHER-of-two needed 62 stitches to repair gaping wounds to his face after being slashed with a stanley knife during a racist attack.
The 28-year-old, who does not want to be indentified, lost about two pints of blood after being assaulted by a gang of four Asian men opposite Fullwell Cross Leisure Centre in Barkingside High Street.
The man, who lives in Barkingside, said his confidence has been left shattered by the ordeal - which took place at around 1.30am on Sunday May 16.
He said: "I left the Fairlop Oak pub and went to a 24-hour shop nearby to get some cigarettes and a couple of lagers.
"On the way out I saw a friend of mine at the bus stop and went to chat with him. At the same time a car pulled up and a group of Asian lads got out and walked past me. They were looking at me funny.
"My friend eventually left and I was leaning against a wall looking at my mobile phone when one of (the gang) hit me over the head with a bottle."
As the man turned around another gang member - described as having a skin head haircut and long beard - racially abused him before slashing him twice in the face, causing a two-inch cut to his cheek and a five-inch gash under his right eye.
The thugs, who were all aged between 25 and 30, ran off following the attack.
The injured man, who has been unable to return to his job as a digger driver on the Olympic site or go out alone at night since the attack, said: "I staggered into the 24-hour shop to ask for help.
I was bleeding really badly.
"If I hadn't been on the way down the guy could have slashed my neck.
"The ambulance took half-an-hour to get there. Luckily an old mate of mine from school arrived at the shop not long after to get something and saw me there bleeding. He helped stem the blood with a load of dusters from the shop.
"I passed out because of the blood loss but the ambulance crew gave me a shot of something which woke me up again."
He was taken to King George Hospital in Goodmayes before being transferred to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel to have micro-stitches inserted in his lip.
He said: "This has really destroyed my confidence.
"I was already feeling low after splitting up from my wife in January, but this has made it even harder for me to meet someone new.
"I'm just lucky to have such good friends around me.
"I don't understand why this happened. I didn't say anything to these people and they just brutally attack me."
The knife-wielding thug is thought to have been wearing a tracksuit at the time of the assault while the other three men wore dark clothing.
The car the gang arrived in was driven off before the attack. It is described as small and blue - possibly a Ford Fiesta.
