THE LATEST TAXPAYERS ALLIANCE BULLETIN ON COUNCIL SALARIES ABOVE £100,000
At least 1,250 council staff nationwide get that salary or more. These are NOT elected councillors but paid staff. Our share of that in Wigan is:
Joyce Redfearn, Chief Executive; Total Remuneration 2007-2008 £196,268; 2008-2009 £200,891; increase of 2.4%.
David Smith, Executive Director;Total Remuneration 2007-2008 £159,733; 2008-2009 £147,493; DECREASE of 7.7%.
Bernard Walker, Executive Director; Total Remuneration 2007-2008 £150,035; 2008-2009 £137,101; DECREASE of 8.6%.
Sue Johnson, Deputy Chief Executive; Total Remuneration 2007-2008 £108,265; 2008-2009 £136,725; increase of 26.3%
Martin Kimber, Executive Director; Total Remuneration 2007-2008 £114,385; 2008-2009 £133,907; increase of 17.1%.
Nick Hudson, Executive Director; Total Remuneration 2008-2009 £125,531.
I'm making no comments about those salary levels (and some of the increases) other than to say that if you NEED more than £52,000/year (£1,000/week) then in my personal opinion you must have a lifestyle problem. That's just my personal opinion.
Having said that, and speaking as an outsider (Welsh) who has lived within the jurisdiction of 14 different councils in my life, and Wigan for some six years now, Wigan is one of the two best councils (the other exceptionally good one was High Wycombe, in Buckinghamshire) I've experienced.
Wigan is Labour is Labour is Labour, and has been seemingly forever. High Wycombe is Tory is Tory is Tory and has been seemingly forever. I wouldn't say one was first best and the other second best - they are just the two best.
I won't name the worst council I've experienced, but will say the first three years there it was Labour-controlled, and the second three years it was Tory-controlled. It was equally bad in both cases.
From what I've just written I've arrived at the conclusion that what decides whether you have a good council or a bad council does NOT depend on the colour of the political control, but rather the quality of the paid staff (all the paid staff, not just the highly paid staff). So maybe the salaries listed above are justified? I don't know other than my personal comment above about needing more than £52,000/year. Make your own judgements, the comment column here is available.
However, I will describe an observation I've made over the past few years: the people who complain the most about the council seem to be people who've never lived within the jurisdiction of any other council. So how can you know the council is bad or good or average if you've nothing to compare it against? If you do complain about the effectiveness of the council, please try and imagine how bad a council can be, if you think Wigan's bad.
I'll probably get it in the neck for saying those things ... but they are what I think, and a can say nothing different.

MORE ON "HOPE NOT HATE"
Part 2 of rebuttal of the "Hope not hate" rag.
The fact that this "paper" is published by the Daily Mirror speaks volumes about the Left's opinion of the intelligence of the British voters.
There are quotes from statements allegedly made by Nick Griffin when he was in his teens.
However much they try to smear him he has NEVER said anything against our country nor been involved with or paid by countries opposed to our democratic way of life.
If we wish to go back consider Mandelson, Clarke, Darling Reid etc, all communists supporting a state with nuclear missiles aimed at us.
Yes in his youth Nick may have said things which he may regret now but he ALWAYS supported Britain unlike these traitors.
I do not know all the things he may have said in his youth but I DO KNOW he has not denied the Jewish holocaust, he has questioned details. He admits it was a crime unlike the erstwhile communists mentioned above who brush Stalin's far worse crimes under the table.
BTW I have visited Auswitz, so I know a bit about it.
The BNP do NOT consider women inferior as evidenced by us standing Tina Wingfield in Salford and my wife has a responsible job in the party and is as committed to it as I am.
The BNP do not advocate the scrapping of income tax.
We do not need these leftist rags to make our policies. We make our own and if people want to know what we really think look on our web site.
Policies we do believe in.
1 No more illegal wars. Come out of Afganistan. Bring our soldiers home.
2 Stop immigration completely saving £BILLIONS in assistance, housing and legal costs.
3 Exit the EU saving at least £60 BILLION.
4 Stop all foreign aid saving at least £8 BILLION.
5 Cut taxes on British industry so that we can compete internationally.
6 Get the banks off our backs. Have a nationalised bank to lend to people and businesses at reasonable rates. Let the casino banks go to the wall while guaranteeing deposits.
7 British jobs for British workers getting our young people off the dole.
8 Bring back our utilities to British control so that we are not in the hands of the French and Germans
9 Improve our education system with proper courses and apprenticeships rather than encourage Mickey Mouse courses which are useless from a student's point of view nor are they of any use to our nation.
10 Increase old age pensions. We would be able to afford it if we took the above measures.
Well that's ten of them and we have more but we don't need the Daily Mirror to tell us what our policies are.
A final thought. We were never asked whether we wanted to be a multicultural society so ALL illegal immigrants would be deported together with people from abroad who had committed crimes.
That's enough for now, but Britain will need more than hope if we are to survive in the future and in due course the people will come to hate those who have destroyed our country.
A day of reckoning is nigh.

LABOUR RUNNING SCARED?
Well,well well they are really getting in a tizz after our leafletting in Leigh.
Below is a letter I received today together with a "Hope not Hate" newspaper.
Dear Charles,
This RUBBISH was delivered to my door this week and a massive anti BNP launch has been issued in this area.
Four different people have knocked on my door in Leigh spreading lies about the BNP
Where is the response from the BNP? They could do very well in this area.(Don't worry we will respond!).
The callers were all from South Manchester and are targetting the Leigh West ward.
This area is a dumping ground for Eastern European migrants and our area has gone downhill with houses fetching less than £30,000 at auction.
Leigh West councillors are Susan Greensmith "Lord" Peter Smith and Myra Whiteside.
They have done nothing for this area and people are fed up with them housing Slovakian gypsies round here.
THIS IS THE AREA THAT'S GOT LABOUR RUNNING SCARED HENCE THE MASSIVE ANTI BNP DELEGATION.(His capitals, not mine)
I call on you to pass this information to the relevant people.
THIS IS A PRIME LOCATION FOR BNP GROWTH.

This letter was accompanied by the "Mirror " sponsored rag "Hope not Hate" featuring prominently the cross dressing Eddie Izzard and ex singer Coleen Nolan.
Why do these people think because they are on the telly their opinions are more valid than any others?
An article in the middle praises a foreign surgeon who saved a young woman's life.
SO? That was his job and nobody would doubt his dedication and I know that from experience. BUT any doctor worth his salt would have done the same and the reason we have to rely on foreign doctors is because we do not train enough of our own and those Brits who do qualify emigrate to get away from this PC cesspit.
An indication of this rag's innacuracies is that he is described as a Ugandan Asian when his name (Nsamba) and appearance shows he is of African origin.
It says he was kicked out of Uganda for being Asian. He is not Asian and those Asians who were kicked out had lived there for generations but Idi Amin is never described as "racist".
It is also alleged that the BNP is misusing taxpayers money for our election campaign.
As a local organiser I know that is not true as we have had to raise the funds ourselves.
I also know the work put in by our officials working in the EU (If you want a DVD explaining it all phone the above number)
I will not rebut all the allegations on this rag today as the post would be too long but I will later.
Suffice it to say that all this effort shows that the BNP has NOT been kicked out of our area as was crowed 5 years ago and we are growing daily as evidenced by the effort and expense of the smear campaign in Leigh.
Keep it up you useless Labour councillors. It is rebounding on you. People can see who you represent and it is not the people of Wigan and Leigh.

SINISTER PLANS FORSEEN
Only two weeks ago I gave a talk about the possibility of a hung Parliament and a sharp drop in the value of the pound.
I wondered whether this would trigger a national emergency and a coalition of national unity with further elections suspended in the interests of the country.
Now it seems civil servants are considering just such a scenario.
This would give the government powers unprecedented except in war and an opportunity to take us fully into the EU and suspend democracy.
The will of the people would be ignored in the "national interest" and our hard won rights finally lost in a fascist super state.
I don't know whether anyone in government circles heard my talk but they seem to be anticipating the situation I predicted.
I hope I did not give them the idea.
The three "major parties" would be involved in this coalition it seems and thus the only real opposition to our future slavery would be the BNP.
No wonder those in power attack us so. We are the ONLY opposition to their sinister plans and thus the only bulwark against this proposed theft of our democracy and freedom.
Never has it been more important to vote for and support the BNP.
It could be our last chance to secure our freedom.
